Types of wrinkles on the face

Wrinkles are divided into two main categories depending on the causes of their occurrence – dynamic and static. Dynamic wrinkles, also known as mimic wrinkles, are formed as a result of repeated face expressions such as laughing, frowning, pursing one’s lips, etc. They are formed in the areas of intensive mobility such as the forehead (horizontal and vertical wrinkles), the glabella (frown lines), in the internal angle of the eyes (crow’s feet) and around the mouth (wrinkles caused by smiling).

Static wrinkles are formed mainly due to the loss of collagen and elasticity during the aging process. This type of wrinkles appears most often on the cheeks, around the nose and mouth. Nasolabial wrinkles are usually the most emphasized sign of the natural aging of face.

In which areas of the face is the occurrence of wrinkles most often seen?

The wrinkles occurring on the face are divided into two categories: Horizontal depressions which are formed due to frequent wrinkling of skin due to raising the eyebrows, and vertical lines, which are formed after any expressive mimic on the face. Over time, wrinkles remain stably on face, irrespective of the patient’s expression, since the retraction of the skin to its position becomes more difficult.

What are the causes for the occurrence of wrinkles?
