Removal of tattoos and permanent make-up
We perform a complete dermatological examination during which we assess a tattoo – its age, colour, quality of pigment, as well as the features of the patient’s skin. We perform a complete interrogation of the patient to establish the signs of a possible allergic reaction, melanoma or other type of skin cancer which could develop under the tattoo.
We prepare the patient for a safe procedure. Statistics show that 50% of people express regret for having a tattoo done, and 30% choose its partial or complete removal due to aesthetic, personal or occupational reasons.
In the Derma-Act clinics the removal of tattoos is performed using PicoSure®, which can precisely obliterate all the colours, except for white, only with several short sessions. The mechanism of action of PicoSure® is based on an elaborate picosecond technology, which emits energy by extremely short pulses breaking pigment particles into fine remains and eliminating them from the skin.
The benefits of the removal of tattoos using PicoSure® are as follows:
Without side effects and skin injuries
Elimination of even the tiniest traces of colour
Certified by FDA (US Food and Drug Administration).
After a procedure using PicoSure®
After the removal of a tattoo using PicoSure® not even a single trace of the tattoo pigments – even with the most stubborn colours such as blue and orange, will remain on your skin. At the same time, the skin remains protected, without injuries and skin scarring.
The maximal effectiveness of the method is achieved with the laser thermal energy penetrating the area of a tattoo while completely absorbing pigments and converting them to a photoacoustci wave, which breaks them into microparticles. While the previous types of lasers created blisters on the skin surface, this unpleasant phenomenon is completely avoided with PicoSure® and the pigment is „elevated“ to the higher layers of the skin in the form of fine remains, which are eliminated by the body on a natural manner.
Types of Tattoos and Administration of PicoSure®
One of the most important benefits of laser is its wide range of administration based on its capacity to emit energy with different wavelengths. In this way, the laser acts differently in each individual case depending on the colours of a tattoo, types and depths of pigments, and the skin type. For a complete removal of a tattoo, 4 to 10 procedures are required at an interval of 4-8 weeks between them. The number of visits depends on:
- The skin type: Darker skin requires an increased number of procedures.
Colours of the tattoo: Monochromatic and particularly black tattoos require a smaller number of procedures in comparison with the polychromatic tattoos.
- Anatomic area: The areas with a better blood circulation such as the neck and head require a decreased number of procedures than extremities such as fingers or hands.
- Pigment quantity: The density of pigment as well as the type of tattoo (professionally made or amateur) also influence the number of procedures required for the removal of the tattoo.
- A tattoo with overlaying: If one tattoo is made over another, pre-existing one, then an increased number of procedures will be required to remove it.
- Existing scars: If scars are seen in the area of a tattoo, they should be treated first before proceeding to the removal of the tattoo itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a procedure take?
The time required for each procedure depends on the sizes and colours of the tattoo. For instance, polychromatic tattoos require alternation of different laser wavelengths. The average duration of the procedure of removal of a small to medium black tattoo is 5 minutes, while treatment of a polychromatic tattoo of similar sizes takes between 10 and 30 minutes.
How long is the interval between procedures?
What should be remembered following a procedure for removal of a tattoo using PicoSure®?
In some of the patients mild swelling and redness in the treated area, which usually resolve within hours, are observed. Rarely, blisters, which disappear after several days, can be formed. Also, possible dehydration and itching can be seen, for which application of a fragrance-free moisturising cream on the affected area is recommended. Using a sun protection cream is necessary following a procedure.
Is tattoo removal painful?
The treatment causes a mild discomfort. An anaesthetic cream may be applied locally.
